From PMS to postmenopause - How a natural lifestyle can support women
Hand on heart: How often have we, as girls, young women, or now during menopause, thought: "Why does nobody actually talk about how much hormones influence our lives?"
From the first menstrual cycles, through PMS, pregnancies, and cycle fluctuations, all the way to perimenopause and postmenopause. Our hormonal system stays with us our whole lives. And yes, it can challenge us. But: We are not helplessly at the mercy of this up and down. A natural lifestyle can achieve an incredible amount, and that is exactly what I want to talk to you about today.
Understanding cycle phases and not seeing the body as an enemy
Many women experience PMS (premenstrual syndrome) with mood swings, water retention, or headaches. In menopause, other issues are then added: hot flashes, sleep disorders, dry mucous membranes.
My most important point: These processes are not "wrong." They are an expression of the fact that our body is working, changing, and carrying us through different phases of life. When we stop fighting against it and start listening, many things become easier.
Natural ways that can accompany you
I know from my work that many women long for "gentle solutions" that don't immediately involve reaching for a pill. And yes, there are an incredible number of approaches that can support us.
1. Nutrition as daily medicine
Our hormone balance reacts sensitively to what we eat. Plenty of fresh vegetables, sufficient protein, healthy fats (yes please, Omega-3!), and little sugar can work wonders. Women often report that they feel fewer mood dips or bloating before their period as a result.
2. Exercise – but in the right measure
It's not about high-performance sports, but about joy. Whether walks, yoga, or dancing in the living room: exercise regulates not only hormones but also stress. And stress is, after all, the biggest opponent of a balanced hormonal system.
3. Herbal helpers
From monk's pepper for PMS to red clover or sage during menopause. Nature provides many plants that can support us. But: Please always look individually at what suits you, and in case of doubt, clarify it with a specialist.
4. Naturally caring for skin & intimate area
Especially in postmenopause, the skin in the intimate area becomes more sensitive and drier. Here I love to provide women with gentle natural cosmetic products that nourish without irritating. Because: A good feeling in one's own body often begins with such small but decisive rituals.
5. Mindfulness & self-care
An overused word, I know, but it is the foundation. Treat yourself to breaks, listen to your inner voice, and learn to say "no." Your body will thank you for it.
Sexuality as a common thread
Something I see again and again in my practice: Many women lose their connection to their sexuality along the way. Be it through PMS, painful periods, hormonal changes during menopause, or simply exhaustion.
This is where my approach as a sex therapist with Sexocorporel comes in: sexuality can be learned. Through exercises that women do at home, they learn to feel their own body in a new way. Only after that follows the togetherness with a partner.
A natural lifestyle in particular—conscious breathing, loving touch, small rituals—can make sexuality something that brings joy again instead of creating pressure. And yes: Desire also grows when we treat our body respectfully.
From PMS to postmenopause: Your body is on your side
What I want to pass on to you: Your body is not an opponent. It is a brilliant organism that carries you throughout your life. With a natural lifestyle, you can help it find balance, in every phase of being a woman.
And please never forget: You are not alone. There are so many women who have the same questions and challenges as you. Talk about it. Seek support. And trust that every phase of life also holds gifts.
