Schön im Schlaf

Did you know that your skin literally needs its beauty sleep?

And ideally for a duration of 8 hours. Restful sleep is a real beauty booster and has a huge impact on our complexion. According to studies, people with sleep deprivation tend to experience premature skin aging and thus also more wrinkles.

For optimal beauty sleep, you should not consume any food at least 3 hours before going to bed, so that the body has enough time for digestion. The same applies to physical activities that heat up the body as well as other "stimulating" activities. Rather, a restful sleep should be initiated with a period of relaxation before going to bed. Because while we sleep, the body does a lot of work.

During the night, important regeneration processes take place throughout the entire organism. Metabolic processes, detoxification, and cell regeneration are now in full swing, and a restful sleep also plays a significant role in skin regeneration. Skin cells regenerate up to three times faster at night than during the day, collagen production is stimulated, and growth hormones are released, which, among other things, ensure firmer skin.

However, those who suffer from chronic sleep deprivation not only tend to have tired, pale, sagging skin and dark circles under the eyes.

In the case of sleep deprivation, the stress hormone cortisol is released in increased amounts and promotes blemishes, moisture loss, and inflammatory processes. It inhibits the formation of hyaluronic acid and promotes increased sebum production - the skin barrier gets out of balance and its function is impaired.

With a sleep duration of 8 hours per night, we regularly reach the deep sleep phase, in which important growth hormones are released, thus allowing our body and our skin enough regeneration time.

Thus, a good night's beauty sleep not only gives the skin an attractive glow, but hair and nails also benefit from the nightly deep sleep phase.
