Palmöl

Palm oil - the most produced and at the same time cheapest vegetable oil on the world market.

There is hardly an economic sector in which palm oil does not play a role. A relatively very large output can be produced on a small area. Unfortunately to the detriment of nature, biodiversity and humans.

Palm oil itself is not problematic and also does not bring any health disadvantages in cosmetics. It is preferably used to optimize the consistency of cosmetic products or as a very affordable base for creams. The only cosmetic disadvantage is its high comedogenicity, which means that palm oil promotes blemishes and clogged pores. Otherwise, pure natural palm oil is harmless to health.

Avoiding palm oil is increasingly recommended, but this has nothing to do with the characteristic properties of the oil, but rather with its production.

The problem simply lies in the sheer volume of demand.

The industry requires enormous plantation areas in tropical regions, which means that more and more rainforest has to give way. The slash-and-burn clearing of rainforest causes irreversible damage to flora and fauna and endangers the habitat of the local population as well as biodiversity. It is estimated that the habitat of the Sumatran tiger, orangutan and Borneo elephant will be completely destroyed by 2050. For example, there will no longer be any rainforest on Borneo.

Human habitat is also destroyed by the palm oil industry. Indigenous people in Indonesia are frequently victims of land grabbing. Indonesia alone produces approx. 30 million tons of palm oil per year on an area the size of Germany.

The clearing of rainforest areas also has an immense impact on the global climate. The burning of forest areas releases huge amounts of CO2 and human-caused soil drainage regularly causes peat fires, which produce approx. 900 million tons of CO2 per year.

According to statistics, approximately 50% could be saved through conscious consumption.

Love it Pure therefore deliberately avoids the use of palm oil and opts for rainforest-friendly alternatives.
