Care Tips for the Neck, Throat and Décolleté
We invest a lot of time and money in our skincare, but we far too often neglect a highly sensitive area, especially when caring for our face, which skincare experts like to call "the big face": the neck, throat and décolleté.
Much like our hands, the neck and décolleté reveal our true age. We should therefore pay these areas much more attention in our daily care routine.
It is not only gravity that takes its toll on the décolleté over time. The skin on the neck and décolleté is particularly delicate, thin and sensitive compared to the rest of the body. It has only a few sebaceous glands to keep the skin supple, and the subcutaneous fat layer is also almost non-existent, especially on the décolleté.
The décolleté is a highly vulnerable area that, especially for side sleepers, can develop fine lines overnight. Furthermore, our neck is constantly in motion, which causes the skin to lose firmness more quickly. To prevent loss of elasticity and wrinkles from becoming permanent and to keep the neck looking plump and firm in old age, we should always include these areas in our daily facial skincare routine.
Here are our tips for a beautiful, firm neck and smooth décolleté:
1. Cleansing
When cleansing your face daily (in the morning with just water or a toner without alcohol & in the evening with a mild cleanser), you should also thoroughly cleanse the neck, throat and décolleté.
2. Avoid mechanical exfoliants
Because the skin on the neck and décolleté is very thin and sensitive, you should care for this area very gently and mildly. Mechanical irritation, such as applying too much pressure when cleansing and massaging in the skincare product, should be avoided. To occasionally remove dry skin flakes, you can use mild enzymatic exfoliants.
3. Skincare
Due to its very thin, sensitive skin, which is prone to dryness and wrinkles, the décolleté often requires richer skincare than the face. Thanks to our simple mix & match system, you do not need a separate décolleté skincare product with Love it Pure. Simply add the valuable lipids, vitamins and antioxidants from our Day & Night Face Oils to the Refreshing Face Fluid .
Tip: gently apply your skincare from your face down over your neck, throat and décolleté, then add a few extra drops of the Day & Night Face Oils on top.
4. The right technique for applying cream
Even though you can gently apply the skincare by spreading the product from your face down over your neck, throat and décolleté, you should always massage the product in against gravity to help prevent wrinkles. Always massage the face from the centre outwards (starting at the chin) and gently sweep from the temples down towards the neck along the lymphatic pathways. Always work the product into the décolleté and neck from the bottom up and stimulate blood circulation with a light massage or gentle tapping.
5. Don't forget the back of the neck
The back of the neck is also part of a beautiful neck. This is where the strongest muscle strands run. Therefore, this area benefits not only from an extra dose of skincare but also from a short, relaxing massage. You can, for example, massage this area more intensively with a Gua Sha to gently release tension. A little wellness moment included!
6. Skincare ingredients
As mentioned, the skin on the neck and décolleté is very sensitive. You should therefore opt for mild, soothing skincare without irritating ingredients that provides the skin with both intense moisture and nourishing lipids. You should also choose ingredients that support the skin's natural protective function, have a regenerating effect, and promote elasticity. The ideal active ingredients are Aloe Vera, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin and plant-based, smoothing and protective lipids such as Squalane, Argan Oil, Rice Germ Oil and Jojoba Oil.
7. Sun protection!
Just like the forehead, nose and upper cheeks, the décolleté is also one of the body's "sun terraces". To prevent premature skin ageing, pigmentation disorders and skin cancer, this area should always be protected from UV radiation with adequate sun protection (as the final step of your morning skincare routine). Light-induced ageing accelerates normal skin ageing many times over.
8. Strengthening the chest muscles
With regular, simple exercises that strengthen the chest muscles, we can also firm up our skin and keep our décolleté looking young. The same applies to our facial muscles.
