Die Säulen des Anti-Aging

The term anti-aging is one of the most prominent in cosmetics, and many people only start engaging with the topic of skincare when they are bothered by their first fine lines.

But what do we actually understand by anti-aging? And what makes for good anti-aging care in the first place?

Anti-aging cosmetics seem to be the magic weapon against all signs of skin aging and promise us eternal youth. But what is behind it?

Basically, the core task of anti-aging products is to slow down the skin's natural aging process. No skincare product is capable of stopping it entirely, let alone preventing it.

With every day, month, and year of our lives, our skin changes and begins to age. The cell cycle slows down, the collagen and elastic fibers slacken, and their moisture-binding capacity decreases. The skin loses its elasticity, becomes thinner, sags, and wrinkles develop.

To slow down this process, i.e., to practice anti-aging, optimal care should support the skin in its natural function. Effective cosmetics do not take over the skin’s tasks, but rather give natural processes a "nudge."

All active ingredients that achieve this effect can be found in nature. That is why we have already formulated our basic care to cover all pillars of anti-aging. The following factors play the most important role in this:

  • An intact barrier layer – active ingredients that maintain the skin's natural protective function and thus not only protect against the penetration of harmful substances but also counteract transepidermal water loss. Lipids/essential fatty acids!
  • Supplying the skin with sufficient moisture. Hydrating ingredients, such as aloe vera, are the be-all and end-all in the fight against the skin's aging process. Since the skin loses more and more moisture and thus tends to develop dryness lines, moisture reservoirs should be replenished regularly.
  • Replenishing hyaluronic acid stores. With advancing age, the skin's own hyaluronic acid production decreases. Through regular skincare with high- and low-molecular hyaluronic acid, not only is the skin’s moisture-binding capacity increased, but its elasticity is also maintained. The formation of wrinkles is actively counteracted.
  • Antioxidants. Free radicals lead to oxidative stress, damage our cells, and cause the skin to age. Antioxidant active ingredients, such as vitamins A, C, and E, possess the ability to neutralize them.
  • Supporting collagen synthesis. Collagen gives our skin structure. If the collagen framework in the deeper skin layers gives way and becomes brittle, the skin loses elasticity and wrinkles emerge. Contrary to popular belief, the intake of pure collagen has no effect on maintaining collagen fibers, as collagen molecules are far too large to actually penetrate the skin. Rather, collagen synthesis must be boosted. In addition to vitamins, moisturizing ingredients such as squalane, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and glycerin support this. These substances are also natural components of the skin and can be excellently absorbed by it.
  • Avoid irritating substances, such as fragrances, synthetic preservatives, irritating surfactants, ethanol. They burden the skin and attack the skin barrier.
  • Protect against UV radiation and environmental influences. Here, antioxidants, the avoidance of direct sunbathing, sun protection, and daily facial cleansing provide support.
  • Skin balance. Healthy skin is beautiful skin and also ages more slowly. Optimal skincare should always support maintaining healthy skin and neither overload it nor overwhelm it with too many active ingredients and additives.
  • Beauty comes from within. A balanced lifestyle, healthy diet, regular sleep, and a balanced supply of micronutrients have a positive effect on the aging process of the skin and body. Anti-aging is a holistic process.
  • Prevention! The earlier we take proper care of our skin – and that means even before the first signs of skin aging become visible – the greater the success we will achieve. Providing the skin with good care at a young age, without over-caring for it, forms the basis for beautiful and healthy skin in old age.
